Vanilla Custard Filling

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup sugar

• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 2 cups milk

• 2 egg yolks, lightly beaten

• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, flour and salt. Stir in milk until smooth.

2. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until thickened and bubbly.

3. Reduce heat; cook and stir 2 minutes longer.

4. Remove from the heat. Stir a small amount of hot filling into egg yolks; return all to the pan.

5. Bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly; cook and stir 2 minutes longer.

6. Remove from the heat. Gently stir in vanilla.
