This incredibly simple rice cooker char siu delivers authentic Chinese BBQ pork flavor with minimal effort. The pork belly becomes tender and caramelized with a glossy finish, traditionally served at room temperature to allow the flavors to fully develop. Perfect for meal prep as it freezes beautifully.

  • 3 tsp sugar (or brown/muscovado sugar)

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp MSG

  • 1 tsp five spice powder (use sparingly)

  • ¼ tsp red food coloring

  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1 tbsp Chinese rice wine (Shaoxing)
